Built for Shopify

Shopify's highest recognition for an app in its App Store, for apps that meet its quality standards, including a limit on how much an app may slow a store down.

Also called BFS.

Shopify calls Built for Shopify status “the highest level of recognition and achievement that an app can reach” (Shopify). Developers apply for it, and an app has to meet all of Shopify’s criteria to be eligible.

What you’ll see in the App Store

• A Built for Shopify badge on the app’s card, on its listing and in search results and category pages.
• A Built for Shopify highlight on the app’s listing, first in its list of highlights.
• A search filter that shows only Built for Shopify apps.

Built for Shopify apps also get a boost in the App Store’s search rankings, though Shopify says that boost isn’t exclusive to them.

The speed rule

Among Shopify’s criteria: an app “must not reduce the storefront Lighthouse performance score by more than ten points” (Shopify). Shopify measures storefront speed for only some apps, so check your store’s speed after you install any app.
