Core Web Vitals
Google's three measures of how a page feels to real visitors: how fast its main content loads, how quickly it responds, and how stable it stays visually.
Google “highly recommend[s]” good Core Web Vitals “for success with Search”, and says that, along with other page experience aspects, they align with what its core ranking systems seek to reward (Google Search Central, checked Oct 7, 2026).
The three measures and Google’s targets
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) measures loading. Google’s target: within 2.5 seconds of the page starting to load.
- Interaction to Next Paint (INP) measures how quickly the page responds. Google’s target: under 200 milliseconds.
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) measures how much the page moves around. Google’s target: a score under 0.1.
Where to see yours
The Core Web Vitals report in Google Search Console shows how your pages do. Check it after you install an app, since apps can slow a store down. Shopify sets a limit for the apps it recognizes: to be Built for Shopify, an app “must not reduce the storefront Lighthouse performance score by more than ten points” (Shopify).
